Special screening of Beyond Anime: CALF Animation for Play for Japan

We've joined the Play for Japan movement to help out Japan's disaster victims.

You've seen it on the news, and we haven't stopped wringing our hands worrying after friends and loved ones in Japan. So when our pals at the Japan Society announced a brilliant emergency project called Play for Japan to round up fundraisers across the UK, they didn't need to ask us twice!

Zipangu will be doing a special London re-screening of the awesome CALF Animation programme, which made waves at Zipangu Fest 2010 and is travelling on to Newcastle next month.

This selection of innovative and uplifting shorts from the minds of young award-winning animators* Atsushi Wada, Mirai Mizue, Kei Oyama and TOCHKA (Takeshi Nagata and Kazue Monno) will redefine our notions of Japanese animation as it is currently perceived in popular culture. In the space of 13 bite-sized delights, CALF will have you on the edge of your seat and asking for more. You won't be disappointed!

So if you've got 85 minutes to spare and a soft spot for Japan, come on down to to the excellent ROXY Bar & Screen in Borough/London Bridge (128-132 Borough High Street, London SE1 1LB) [Map] at 6pm on Sunday, 3rd April 2011. We'll be accepting donations as admission, and all admissions proceeds will go to the Japan Society Tohoku Earthquake Relief Fund.

A huge thanks is due to the ROXY for hosting us on such short notice - so be sure to make merry!

* They've all checked in, by the way, and TOCHKA themselves are working hard on their own little project to lift spirits back in Japan.
