Get your groove on with Rock Tanjo: The Movement 70s, a smashing documentary about the birth of 'New Rock' in 1970s Japan. This UK premiere introduces some of the legendary figures of the era via interviews and original live footage, with music by Flower Travellin' Band, Brain Police, Creation and others.
This will be followed by the UK premiere of Live Tape, an inspiring documentary which follows musician Kenta Maeno through the streets of Tokyo on New Year's Day. Born in 1979 and working his way up as the "Bob Dylan of Japan" with his frank lyrics and distinctive charisma, Maeno made his professional musical debut with Romance Car in September 2007. A song on the album, Weather Report, was used in the making-of documentary for the award-winning comedy Detroit Metal City. Maeno's second album Only Lonely was released in January 2009. Following the success of Live Tape this year at various international film festivals, he has begun touring regularly and was last performing at several venues in New York in conjunction with the New York Asian Film Festival.
The Live Tape screening will be followed by a Q&A with the director, Tetsuaki Matsue.
Be sure to stick around for Maeno's Live Set performance at around 10pm! The performance, which will be Maeno's first ever in the UK, will see the Live Tape star Kenta Maeno accompanied by Yuki Yoshida on the niko (Chinese harp).
Admission is £5 per head for the entire night. Seats will be limited, so please arrive early to avoid disappointment!
